What do you make of following Germany's strategy for dealing with plastic bottles? German people pay a deposit of 25 cents for most of these bottles. Once the bottle is empty, you can bring it back to the grocery store and get your deposit back. When you dispose of a green bottle at the bottle recycling machine you receive a printed receipt. When you next buy something at the supermarket, you are then able to give that receipt to the cashier and have the full amount of the deposit deducted from your bill.
