MORE PLASTIC THAN FISH IN OUR OCEANS BY 2050. IT’S TIME FOR BIOPLASTICS TO TAKE OVER
According to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, there will be more plastic than fish in the world's oceans by 2050. It's time to make the change over to bioplastics. More and more companies are beginning to produce packaging from plant and vegetable matter instead of from fossil fuels. As reported by the European Bioplastics Association in Berlin, whose members include Cargill and Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings, the use of bioplastics made from sugar cane, wood and corn will grow by at least 50 per cent in the next five years. The German chemical giant BASF and the Finnish paper maker Stora Enso have recently stepped into the market to meet demand from the likes of Coca-Cola and Lego.
